…Now this is where A’Kyria takes an interesting detour from traditional tabletop RPGs. In the Lands of the Ancient Empire, in an area known as the Harverhill Highlands, adventures are waiting. The stories unfold in self-contained downloadable software “pods” that contain not only the story, but tools to run the adventure. Take your party to find the lost temple where it is rumored the moon travels within the mountain peaks and the priests met a terrible end. Or maybe you wish your party to get coerced by a conniving duke to rescue his belligerent daughter from goblins. See the underground Dyson’s Sphere Farmlands bask in the light of their miniature sun. Fight the scourge of Lycanthropy; become Gladiators for the Centaurs; finish off a Mad Necromancer or simply smash your way through a horde of Giant Beetles. New stories continue to be added, eventually to fill all quarters of the Ancient Empire, from the Harverhill Highlands and the Sark Sea, to the Desert Divide, the Juninboa Jungle and beyond.
And that, my friends, is A’Kyria: One world…infinite possibilities.

A’Kyria: One world…infinite possibilities

A’Kyria is a new tabletop role-playing system, not simply a story-based role-playing game. The combat is d100 based and the advancement is Skill based. Players can use the points they earn immediately to advance their character without waiting to “level” or “rank” up. This provides for an incredible range of diverse characters. The system is not “class” based so it does not restrict you to a fixed path. The system is designed to work with all genres, i.e. sci-fi, fantasy, espionage, cyber punk, western, superhero, etc., but the base rules currently support fantasy.

We have 12 races: 5 of these are traditional races, i.e. Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome and Orc, and 7 races are unique to A’Kyria. 6 of the new races are humanoid, but loosely animal based: The Bargwhy is a bear-based race; Scepurian is cat-based; Laquaran is bird-based; Rawg’Mai is lizard-based, the Arphil is canine-based and the Sintis-Man is insect-based. The Cheveroid follows the basic concept of the Roswell Grey alien. Each race has their own set of special abilities and racial modifiers.

There are only 3 basic occupations to choose from, Warrior, Wizard and Rogue, but it is important to note that these are simply ‘starting’ occupations for your character and only represent what your character is innately good at. These occupations do not dictate what your character will become. In A’Kyria, a Warrior can cast spells and a Wizard can wear armor or use a sword. This creates a huge range of possibilities within the system. For example, perhaps you wanted to create a cleric-type character…you can do this by having a Warrior learn healing spells, a Wizard learn weapons and armor or have a Rogue learn both. With combinations of spells and skills, you could create any character from a war mage to a magical thief, to a paladin, a ninja, an assassin, a pirate, a necromancer, a druid or even an earth elemental lizard wizard who can charm animals and is an excellent knife fighting merchant! The choices are nearly endless!

Everything is based on a character’s or creature’s proficiency with an item, skill, spell or power. Skills advance from Simple to Basic to Intermediate and then Advanced. Each stage requires prerequisites that the character can build on to get to the next stage. With the increased proficiency they get increased bonuses or new abilities. This also applies to Spells. Spell results improve as the spell caster improves with the spell. Spells also build on each other requiring prerequisites much like the skills. There is no occupational or rank restriction as to who may cast a spell or who can learn a skill. The only limitations to these are time or power.

You can detail your character even further with weapons, items and armor. These have proficiencies as well, allowing your character to be more skilled with a bastard sword, for example, than a staff or throwing knives depending on how many points you put into a weapon, item or armor.

The combat system has three ranges: Miss – where no contact is made, Hit on Armor – where the blow lands on the armor and Hit – where the blow gets past the armor and hits the target directly. The Hit on Armor section shrinks or widens depending upon the type of armor and how well the character can use it.

Health for a character follows 3 statistics: Stun Points, Life Points and Power Points. All damage goes toward Stun Points first, but if the blow is hard enough it will cause physical damage and then ‘roll’ into the Life Points. Do enough damage and it can continue ‘rolling’ to Power then back around to Stun again. If a blow lands against armor, the armor absorbs the initial blow, but has the potential to still cause damage if the blow is strong enough.

Points are divided into four categories: Weapon, Defense, Physical and Mental. Characters can garner points from combat, training or the successful use of their skills. For example: A character with the “Actor” skill can try to entertain a tavern. If they succeed, then they gain points. If they fail, they get rotten tomatoes thrown at them and one point (often called a pity point) for giving it the ole college try. These points can be used at any time to raise proficiencies in spells, skills, weapons, items or armor; allowing the player to buff and adjust their character as they play.

A’Kyria is a game system that players love for its versatility; not only for the myriad of options for character creation and development, but also for the range of possibilities for game play.

The World of A'Kyria - Map and Pods

Pods - Expand Your Map & Get New Stories!

A’Kyria pods are software adventures designed as a referee tool to enhance the tabletop role playing experience. Each pod contains an adventure story line, creatures, treasure, traps and a host of other elements, as well as, devices to track characters, combat and game play.

While each pod has pictures and maps, pods are not video games. They are intentionally simple in look and approach so the software will not detract from the referee’s imagination and the essence of the tabletop role playing experience.

Each pod adventure will lead directly to one or more additional pods, branching out into multiple story lines and multiple paths that a referee can choose from.
